Registered Practical Nurse (Casual)

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) performs nursing functions within the primary care clinic in support of primary care providers, interdisciplinary team members and clients. The RPN also performs nursing assessments and procedures, health education and counseling, history taking, and other relevant clinical activities according to the College of Nurses of Ontario standards of practice, and as authorized by applicable medical directives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enable greater clinical efficiency by coordinating client flow before, during, and after appointments with providers.

  • Prepare clients for appointments such as conducting initial assessment by obtaining client concerns, collecting vitals, prepping exam rooms, as appropriate.

  • Perform procedures such as venipuncture and ear syringing, as well as those authorized by applicable medical directives with an understanding of individual limitations laid out in the directives.

  • Clinical service provision including but not limited to nursing triage and assessment, minor nursing procedures, and health education and counseling.

  • Collaborates with members of an interdisciplinary team to plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate care and support of clients and their families.

  • Monitors client progress, keeping records, charts, reports, etc. up to date in accordance with CS-36 Documentation of Client Encounters.

  • Provides home visits for clients who are isolated or face barriers to accessing care, as necessary.

  • Contributes to organizational funding targets and primary care team operational priorities.

  • Supports and complies with legislated and/or mandated policies and procedures.

Core Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in nursing from a recognized university/college

  • Licensed as a Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO)

  • 2 years minimum primary health care experience in a community setting

  • Demonstrated commitment to inter-professional team environment

  • Experience with electronic health records

  • Valid Driver’s license

Terms:

  • Casual

  • Term: Ongoing

  • Location: Portland & Westport

  • Salary Range: $25.55 - $30.05

  • Start Date: As soon as possible
