The Opportunity

Environmental Services plays a critical role in ensuring safe, healthy, and welcoming clinical and community spaces. The Cleaner – Environmental Services helps uphold CRCHC’s Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) and environmental safety standards by performing high‑quality cleaning and disinfection across sites.

This role offers flexible scheduling and site selection.

CRCHC may hire one full-time candidate or two part‑time candidates (e.g., 0.6 FTE each). Successful candidates will select their preferred work location(s) and hours, enabling a customized schedule that meets both organizational needs and employee preference.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and enhanced environmental cleaning and disinfection according to IPAC standards and CRCHC’s RHS‑24 Environmental Cleaning policy.

  • Clean high‑touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, light switches, keyboards, phones) at required frequency to prevent microorganism transmission.

  • Complete sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, restroom sanitation, and surface disinfection tasks across designated areas.

  • Use approved cleaning agents, disinfectants, and equipment safely and effectively.

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and report shortages.

  • Complete cleaning logs, checklists, and other documentation as required.

  • Report safety hazards, spills, maintenance issues, or IPAC concerns promptly.

  • Support a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for clients, staff, volunteers, and visitors.

Qualifications

  • Experience in environmental cleaning, custodial work, or housekeeping

  • Ability to follow established procedures, cleaning protocols, and schedules

  • Attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work independently

  • Commitment to IPAC and safe work practices

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation:  $41,100

Position Title:             Cleaner - Environmental Services

Reports To:                 Executive Director

Summary of Job:

The Cleaner is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and healthy environment across all CRCHC locations, following Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) principles and environmental cleaning standards outlined in RHS‑24 Environmental Cleaning.

This position ensures that all areas of the Health Centre, including clinical spaces, offices, public areas, and washrooms, are cleaned and disinfected to prevent the transmission of microorganisms and maintain a safe workplace for clients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete routine, enhanced, and area‑specific cleaning in accordance with CRCHC’s environmental cleaning procedures.

  • Disinfect high‑touch surfaces (e.g., doorknobs, keyboards, light switches, counters) at the required frequency.

  • Follow established IPAC protocols for cleaning, disinfection, and handling contaminated materials.

  • Maintain stock of cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when replenishment is required.

  • Perform regular cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing surfaces.

  • Support a clean, welcoming environment for clients and staff across all sites.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Follow all CRCHC environmental cleaning procedures and schedules as outlined in RHS‑24 Environmental Cleaning.

  • Handle, store, and use cleaning agents, disinfectants, and equipment safely and according to manufacturer instructions.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of cleaning tasks, logs, and assigned checklists.

  • Identify and report maintenance or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.

  • Ensure all areas are maintained in a manner consistent with Occupational Health & Safety Act standards and CRCHC policies.

  • Follow CRCHC policies to maintain a safe, healthy, and inclusive environment for clients, staff, and visitors.

  • Maintain confidentiality and minimize risk in all aspects of work.

  • Contribute to accurate documentation and consistent communication within the team.

  • Adhere to routine practices including hand hygiene, use of PPE, and safe work procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in cleaning or environmental services (healthcare preferred).

  • Understanding of or willingness to learn IPAC principles and cleaning/disinfection techniques.

  • Ability to follow written procedures, schedules, and checklists.

  • Familiarity with infection control guidelines and environmental cleaning best practices.
