Community Pharmacist

Community pharmacists in Ontario play an important role in healthcare. In addition to dispensing medications, they offer a wide range of services that help residents manage their health more conveniently and effectively.

Prescribing for Common Ailments

Pharmacists can assess and prescribe medications for 19 common conditions, including:

  • Acid reflux disease (GERD)
  • Acne, canker sores, and cold sores
  • Dermatitis and diaper rash
  • Hay fever and pink eye
  • Hemorrhoids and impetigo
  • Insect bites, hives, and tick bites
  • Menstrual cramps and nausea in pregnancy
  • Oral thrush and yeast infections
  • Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
  • Parasitic worms 

Vaccination Services

Pharmacists administer publicly funded vaccines such as:

  • Flu, COVID-19, and RSV vaccines

  • Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pneumococcal, and Shingles

  • Hepatitis A & B, Rabies, Meningococcal, and HPV

Health Management Programs

Smoking Cessation: One-on-one counselling and support for those looking to quit smoking.

Diabetes Management: Education and support to help manage blood sugar levels.

MedsCheck Program: Medication reviews for individuals taking three or more prescriptions to ensure safe and effective use.
